Lake Union Waterworks Location: Seattle, Washington
Now a delightful office environment on Lake Union’s north shore, this design/build project began with a derelict building that hadn’t known maintenance for over 40 years. Looking beyond the building’s tumbledown, rabbit-warren status, Craig & Lawson Architects gutted and replaced rotting pilings and beams, resided the building, and gave it a new roof. One segment at a time, while carving out firm space and outfitting offices for tenants, Craig & Lawson Architects transformed the Lake Union Waterworks Marina from a shiplap and beveled-siding ugly duckling into a graceful, contemporary waterfront swan. Today, Craig Architects continues to champion creative-reuse, looking beyond the sometime dismal present for the cost-saving and value-added possibilities that exist in every project. |
