Puget Sound Mutual Savings Bank

Location: Lynnwood, WA

Size: 3,000 sf

This site presented a real problem. Lynnwood, like many other suburban areas, was developing in strip mall fashion, with the usual collection of discount stores, fast food joints and retail outlets, and no unifying theme or sense of orientation between projects.

What kind of building could stand out from all this clutter, and still project the dignity and reserve required by a financial institution? In the name of good taste and architectural integrity, there was no thought of meeting the stripmall on its own terms.

The answer was a simple, bold building. One that refused to blend into the background, or be overwhelmed by visual clutter. Through the clarity and bold simplicity of its design, the Lynnwood branch of Puget Sound Mutual Savings Bank stood calmly apart from the surrounding confusion, while effectively meeting occupants’ operational needs.
